Why I say that the "homo rights in Russia" lobby is full of crap

In the comments section of my previous post, Jack brought to my attention the following video:

It is supposed to show how a "Gay Reporter Kicked off Kremlin Network After Protesting Anti Gay Law"

Now the way this video ends one could be forgiven for thinking that the homo in question, James Kirchick, was rudely thrown off the set or something similar.  Except that what actually happened is that they simply let him finish his rant and never asked him another question again.  You can watch the full segment here:

http://youtu.be/a1NI2yEMWc4

But that is not the main point.  The main point is that Kirchick claims that the homo topic is not covered on RT.  Of course, it is, like in this panel discussion about just that:

http://youtu.be/KZv0NskSsf0

Kirchick also makes a really funny statement about journalists being routinely harassed and tortured (!) in Russia.  While I cannot prove a negative, I can do something about his outrageous claim that the homo topic is not covered on Russian TV.

One of the most popular TV show on Russian TV is the show "K Barieru" ("To the Stand") of Vladimir Soloviev.  The show is known for inviting guest who strongly disagree with each other and it typically features a lively verbal slugfest between the opposing sides.  Last year Soloviev invited Nikolai Alekseev who is the most famous "gay" activist in Russia and who is the main organizer of the attempts to have "gay pride parades" in Russia.  In the segment above a (rather goofy looking) psychiatrist-sexologist describes the campaign of threats and harassment she has been subjected to by the Russian homo community for publishing a book the homos did not approve of.  In reaction Alekseev begins to hurl insults at her and calls her a liar.  He then makes fun of her wig and calls her a scarecrow.  At which point the host, Soloviev, interrupts the exchange to ask Alekseev how he could claim to be in favor of tolerance and acceptance while at the same time insulting a lady.  At which point Alekseev takes off his mike, smashes it and leaves the studio followed by a group of Western homos who had come with him to the show.  Check for yourself the video of this moment (no need to speak Russian to get it all):

My point?

First - homos have plenty of access to Russian TV.  If only because there is a huge amount Russian journalists who are homosexuals.  True, they don't advertise it like James Kirchick, but they don't do much to hide it either.  Many of them to an excellent job, by the way, like the two main Western Europe correspondents of the TV channel NTV.  Not only that, by tens of talkshows have been organized in Russia when this entire homo furore began. And then there are many homos in arts, such a ballet, of course, or even (crappy) pop music (like Philipp Kirkorov).

Second, the homo lobby (as opposed to Russian homosexuals) in Russia is exactly like the homo lobby in the USA.  It is composed of pathological liars who act in an amazingly rude way, like spoiled kids really, and who deeply antagonize most of the people they are trying to rally to their cause.  The kind of rude hysterics shown by Kirchick is very much in the same style as the antics of Alekseev.  Both display a lack of basic manners and an rudely aggressive personality.

Third, and this is really crucial.  Putin and the Kremlin have absolutely no reason at all to censor folks like Kirchick and Alekseev.  Why?  Because the kind of pathetic and arrogant hysterics these folks always display to make their case is the best possible way to really get the average Russian man or woman to gag in nauseated disgust.  You know what a typical Russian guy would think listening to these two?  "Морда просит кирпича!": "this face begs for a brick!" meaning that this kind of expression deserves to have a brick smashing it.  Mind you - the vast majority of Russian homosexuals do NOT elicit this kind of feelings in most Russians.  The few truly violent homophobes in Russia are still a small minority.  Most people don't care either way.

The Western elites are making a *huge* mistake by engaging in this absolutely imbecile campaign against Russia for having laws which ban homo propaganda aimed at kids.  First, every Russian knows full well that there are many countries out there, including CLOSE allies of the US/NATO/EU (think KSA here!) where homos have it much worse than in the really sexually tolerant Russian society.  But second, this propaganda campaign associates the modern Western culture and civilization with a subservience to, or admiration for, a phenomenon which most Russians see at best as a pathology and, at worst, a sign of degeneracy.  In other words, the end result of this homo campaign will be double: a worsening of the social status of homosexuals in Russia (they will be associated with a hostile, hypocritical and aggressive West) combined with a sense of contempt, if not outright disgust, with the West and its gay parades.

As for me, I would just say that a civilization which allows itself to become the hostage of lobbies like the Zionist lobby or the homo lobby deserves nothing else but the inevitable consequences of this surrender.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah speech on the anniversary of July War celebration 2013

Bradley Manning wants to be called "Chelsea" and become a woman through hormony therapy

This is Manning's full statement to the public:
Subject: The Next Stage of My Life

I want to thank everybody who has supported me over the last three years. Throughout this long ordeal, your letters of support and encouragement have helped keep me strong. I am forever indebted to those who wrote to me, made a donation to my defense fund, or came to watch a portion of the trial. I would especially like to thank Courage to Resist and the Bradley Manning Support Network for their tireless efforts in raising awareness for my case and providing for my legal representation.

As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me. I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible. I hope that you will support me in this transition. I also request that, starting today, you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun (except in official mail to the confinement facility). I look forward to receiving letters from supporters and having the opportunity to write back.

Thank you,

Chelsea E. Manning
This is not the first time that Manning has these kinds of thought.  Here is, according to the BBC, a photo of him he sent to a supervisor in 2010.

In this context, I think that there are a few common sense principles which I want to list here.

First,  none of that has any bearing on the "Brandly Manning case" as such.  Of course, his gender identity problems might have contributed to his choice to speak up against the violence and lies which he saw being perpetrated, his defense lawyer actually made that point, but there is no way to ascertain whether that is the case or not.  Nor does it really matter.

Second, whatever one may think of cause(s) of Manning's gender identity problems, this is first and foremost Manning's private matter and none of our business.  Since he made that letter public though, it is legitimate to discuss it.

Third, while I would definitely comply with his request to address him as 'Chelsea' and use the feminine pronoun in any direct contact with him, I would do so simply as a sign of courtesy based on the principle that I think that people should be called whatever they want, just as I would address a Papist bishop by "Your Excellency" or a judge by "Your Honor".  This does not imply however that I actually hold these gentlemen as being particularly excellent or honorable.  Thus in speaking about Manning, I will still continue to use the male pronoun and, therefore, his original name of Bradley.  What I would not do is recognize the fiction that he has somehow turned into a woman or that he always has been a woman in a men's body.  That is a load of crap which I am under no obligation to accept: wanting to be a woman and being a woman are two very different concepts, unless one believes in magical thinking.

Lastly, I think that Manning deserves our full support regardless of any personal issues he might have.  I particularly like the idea of the petition to give him the Nobel Peace Prize even though I am quite sure that this will never happen.  The bottom line is this: Manning did us all a huge favor and he is paying a terrifying price for it, and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude.  Heroes are not called heroes because they are flawless, they are heroes because of a heroic action they took at one specific moment in their lives.  By any reasonable standard Manning is a hero and a person who should never be forgotten.

For the foreseeable future, Manning will live in two jails: one provided to him by Uncle Sam, and the other as a consequence of his gender identity issues and I would argue that, knowing the uncivilized and ugly nature of US jails, the latter might be worse than the former.  What is certain is that he would be far more comfortable and safe in a female detention facility than in a male one and I hope that there will be a public opinion push to at least grant him his wish (no, that would not 'make' him into a female, but what harm could a 'male' like Manning do to this female co-prisoners?  None, of course).

It will be interesting to see how the homo lobby will handle this one.  If they have any sense of fairness at all, they should throw their full support behind Manning's desire to be recognized as a woman.  So maybe, just maybe, this will be the one instance where the existence of a homo lobby could serve a higher good.  That would be very nice indeed!

The Empire insults our collective intelligence. Again.

This is the sequence which the Empire submits to our attention: on August 18th a UN inspection team arrives in Syria to investigate the reports of use of chemical weapons.  Two days later, on August 20, the Syrian government uses chemical weapons against hundreds of civilians.  And not in some distant and remote corner of the country, but in a suburb of Damascus, conveniently near the UN inspection team.

Does anybody see a problem with this narrative?

Nevermind that the Syrian government is, by all accounts, clearly winning this war.  Nevermind that the US made a clear threat that the use of chemical weapons would be a "game changer" implying that it would result in a US/NATO military intervention.  Nevermind that in in the course of this war chemical munitions were only found in the inventory of the insurgency.

"Fact's don't matter.  Logic don't matter."

Such could be the slogan for what Chris Hedges calls the "Empire of Illusion".

Now let's see how many morons will actually accuse Assad of using chemicals and use this latest fairytale as "proof".

The smartphone as a weapon to defeat the Empire's propaganda

Tonight I was watching the latest video footage of the bloodbath in Egypt - this time infantry fighting vehicles using their guns to shoot at demonstrators.  What caught my attention was that in the corner of the video you could see two Egyptian men standing with smartphones making their own video recording of the massacre taking place under their window.  See for yourself:

And I thought to myself "at least this massacre will be well documented!"

These smartphones are truly a powerful counter-propaganda tool.  Not only can they make rather decent videos by just pressing a button, but they can also instantly upload them to the web, or send the footage to friends, or even stream it live.  And they are literally *everywhere*.  This kind of distributed video-capability is practically impossible to defeat because it is simply too ubiquitous.  I have read that even in the DPRK more and more people are using (highly illegal) smartphones.

Of course, a military junta can shut down the Internet (locally, at least), search for smartphones, jam their signals, etc.  A techno-savvy regime like the one in the USA or Israel could do something even far more effective: it could remotely disable the video camera on all smartphones in a specific areas or even remotely destroy all smartphones. But that would be very *very* conspicuous and, besides, it would also be a PR disaster.  So I don't mean to suggest that the "smartphone threat" cannot be successfully tackled by a sophisticated regime, but in most cases this would be a difficult task, at least in most countries out there.

And then, there is the relative blessing of having the truly sicko thugs, like the Wahabi crazies in Chechnia and Syria, who love to film their own atrocities.  The footage of the horrors committed and video-recorded by the Chechen Wahabis truly mobilized the Russian public opinion behind Putin's 2nd war to smash the insurgency.  Likewise, in Syria, thanks to all the bloodcurdling atrocities filmed by the Wahabis themselves, the public opinion gradually shifted against the insurgency.

Bottom line: CNN, al-Jazeera, the BBC and the rest of them can continue to spew their lies, millions of people with cheap smartphones in their pockets can now prove that they are lying and show the facts on the ground if not on TV then, at least, on the Internet.

The Internet plus the smartphone are a fantastic combination of technologies which have political repercussions which their creators (DARPA, IT corporations) never saw coming.  Sure, the bad guys are now very *very* busy trying to get all that back under their control, but, hopefully, the good guys - us - will remain a step ahead of them.

YouTube deactivates Press TV's account under orders of the ADL

Press TV reports:

A political commentator says YouTube deactivation of Press TV's official page under pressure from the Israeli-American Anti-Defamation League (ADL) shows the video-sharing site is afraid of people’s awareness.

“Press TV has become essentially the CNN of activists and persons who do not want to be fed a steady diet of execrable hasbara of CIA lies and half truths,” Randy Short, member of the Black Autonomy Network Community Organization, told Press TV in an interview.
“As a result they want to shut off the one source of very good news that people can get in places like the United States, Great Britain and South Africa,” he added.
He emphasized that Press TV represents a “golden opportunity for freedom of speech” and called for more aggressive programming because “if they really wanted to shake things up, opportunities present themselves all the time.”
“So in reality, they have not even begun to see how Press TV can challenge censorship and wake people up until even those who make the programming realize that they've got to go to the full limit to bring down this condemned house of Islamophobia, racism, imperialism and intolerance that dominate in the media that serves the purposes of the empire,” Short added.  “People essentially in America are in particular brain dead,” the commentator stated.
YouTube has deactivated Press TV's new account after the ADL ordered it to terminate the Iranian channel's live broadcast.

"On August 20, YouTube's parent company Google deactivated Press TV's new account weeks after disabling the channel's official page," said Press TV Newsroom Director Hamid Reza Emadi.

Since January 2012, Press TV has come under mounting pressure from European governments and satellite companies, which have taken the alternative channel off the air across the European Union.

’Israeli’ Ambassador to Egyptian Minister: Al-Sisi ’National Hero for All Jews’

Al-Ahed news reports:

The "Israeli" ambassador to Cairo has supposedly told a minister in the interim government that "Israelis" view Egyptian General Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi as a "national hero".

According to the Middle East Monitor citing from the "Israel" Radio, the ambassador phoned the Egyptian Agriculture Minister Ayman Abu-Hadid to congratulate him on his new post, adding, "Al-Sisi is not a national hero for Egypt, but for all Jews in "Israel" and around the globe."

Saudi beheadings bring execution tally to 60 this year

Al-Akhbar reports:

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday beheaded by the sword two nationals convicted of murdering a Syrian and of armed robbery, the interior ministry said.

Ibrahim al-Qanbar and Ahmed al-Musalam were found guilty of attacking a labor camp and opening fire on residents, killing Mohammed al-Shuja and wounding another person, the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA state news agency.

Qanbar was also charged with several acts of armed robbery, it said.

The beheadings in the Qatif district, in Eastern Province, brings to 60 the number of people executed in Saudi Arabia this year, according to an AFP count.

In 2012, the US-backed Gulf country executed 76 people, according to a tally based on official figures. Human Rights Watch has put the number at 69.
Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery, drug trafficking, sorcery and witchcraft are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's medieval justice system.

Finally, we have now come full circle: Turkish NGO Recruiting Muslim Albanians for War in Syria

Fars news reports:

TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkish charity organization, IHH, has recruited hundreds of Muslim Albanians and sent them to Syria after military trainings in Turkey to take part in the armed struggle against the Damascus government, informed sources said.

"The IHH, which operates under the cover of relief and charity activities and acts in full coordination with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and extremist Saudi Wahhabi groups, has so far recruited and transferred a number of 769 Albanians to Syria to join the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA)," an informed source who asked to remain anonymous for fear of his life, told FNA on Wednesday.

The source, who has defected the program after two weeks of war in Syria, added that those recruited by the IHH "have been transfered to Turkey via Tirana and undergone military trainings by retired US officers stationed in Reyhanli military base in the Southern Turkish province of Hatay".

"The last one of these recruited groups comprised 90 Albanian nationals who were flown to Istanbul from Tirana on Turkish Air flight no. 1078 on June 30, 2013," he continued.

Asked about the cause of his defection, the source said, "Despite IHH’s efforts to recruit the said people for the FSA, around 450 of these Muslim Albanians have defected the FSA after a few weeks of war and joined al-Qaeda-linked groups, specially the al-Nusra Front" as al-Qaeda groups enjoy better supplies, backup and organization and lead the war of insurgency in Syria.

The source said he returned to Albania after he had seen the war crimes committed by the terrorist groups against civilians in Syria.

He said he did not meet his family after returning to Albania as he was deeply fearful of the reaction of the Turkish intelligence officers and their mercenaries in Albania, adding that his family joined him only after escaping Tirana.

In June, tens of retired US Army officers accompanied by a military cargo infiltrated into Syria through Turkey's Hatay province.

“An American C-130 plane carrying a cargo of hi-tech telecommunications equipment and devices and 57 retired US officers landed in Turkey’s Hatay province this morning,” an informed source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told FNA on June 23.

“The US officers crossed the border with Syria via Reyhanli (in Hatay province) and their goal is to take charge of the central command of all military activities of armed rebels in Syria,” added the source.

He mentioned that the military cargo, containing the telecommunications equipment, left Reyhanli for the border crossing after the US officers arrived at their destination in Northern Syria.

Also in June, a report said that the US spy agency was gearing up to send weapons to insurgent groups in Syria through secret bases in Turkey and Jordan.

“The bases are expected to begin conveying shipments of weapons and ammunition within weeks,” the US daily, The Washington Post, reported in June, quoting unnamed American officials as saying.

The IHH was established in Istanbul in 1991 by advocates of Turkey's Welfare Party founded by former Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. It played a positive role in supporting Bosnian Muslims during the Bosnia War (1992-1995).

Throughout the coming years, IHH distanced itself from Turkey's Welfare and Felicity Parties. After the outbreak of unrests in Syria in March 2011 it actively took part in helping the Syrian opposition groups.

IHH was supposed to provide humanitarian relief in case of outbreak of war, earthquake, hunger or conflict. Current president of the IHH is Fehmi Bulent Yildirim, but his deputy Osman Atalay is practically in charge of IHH's affairs.

Atalay acts in full coordination with Davutoglu, Salafis and Wahhabis, and is engaged in humanitarian relief operations on the surface.

According to the Foundation of Islamic Brotherhood, there is corroborative evidence that IHH (under the cover of humanitarian aid) is providing the terrorists in Syria with heavy weaponry, including anti-aircraft missiles and Turkish newspapers and western officials in Syria have mentioned this help to the Syrian rebels.

In October, IHH sent heavy weaponry to Syrian rebels under the guise of humanitarian relief aid.

“We have relationships today in Syria that we didn’t have six months ago,” US President Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser Benjamin J. Rhodes said during a White House briefing.

US officials announced in June that Obama had authorized sending weapons to the militants in Syria 'for the first time.'

In mid-June 2012, American newspaper USA Today quoted Christopher Harmer, an analyst with the Institute for the Study of War, as saying that the US is vetting to use Turkey's Incirlik Air Base, which is technically a NATO air base, as a hub for supplying militants in Syria with weapons. Reports had also earlier revealed that Turkish Air has been transiting Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants from North Waziristan in Pakistan to the Turkish borders with Syria.

"The Turkish intelligence agency sent 93 Al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists from Waziristan to Hatay province near the border with Syria on a Turkish Air Airbus flight No. 709 on September 10, 2012 and via the Karachi-Istanbul flight route," the source told FNA in September, adding that the flight had a short stop in Istanbul.

The 93 terrorists transited to the Turkish border with Syria included Al-Qaeda militants from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan and a group of Arabs residing in Waziristan, he added.

FNA dispatches from Pakistan said new al-Qaeda members were trained in North Waziristan until a few days ago and then sent to Syria, but now they are transferring their command center to the borders between Turkey and Syria as a first step to be followed by a last move directly into the restive parts of Syria on the other side of the border.

The al-Qaeda, backed by Turkey, the US and its regional Arab allies, had set up a new camp in Northern Waziristan in Pakistan to train Salafi and Jihadi terrorists and dispatched them to Syria via Turkish borders.

"A new Al-Qaeda has been created in the region through the financial and logistical backup of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and a number of western states, specially the US," a source told FNA in September.

Ali Mahdian told FNA that the US and the British governments have been playing with the al-Qaeda through their Arab proxy regimes in the region in a bid to materialize their goals, specially in Syria.

He said the Saudi and Qatari regimes serve as interlocutors to facilitate the CIA and MI6 plans in Syria through instigating terrorist operations by Salafi and Arab Jihadi groups, adding that the terrorists do not know that they actually exercise the US plans.

"Turkey has also been misusing extremist Salafis and Al-Qaeda terrorists to intensify the crisis in Syria and it has recently augmented its efforts in this regard by helping the new Al-Qaeda branch set up a camp in Northern Waziristan in Pakistan to train Al-Qaeda and Taliban members as well as Turkish Salafis and Arab Jihadis who are later sent to Syria for terrorist operations," said the source.

He said the camp in Waziristan is not just a training center, but a command center for terrorist operations against Syria.

Yet, the source said the US and Britain are looking at the new Al-Qaeda force as an instrument to attain their goals and do not intend to support them to ascend to power, "because if Salafi elements in Syria ascend to power, they will create many problems for the US, the Western states and Turkey in future".

"Thus, the US, Britain and Turkey are looking at the Al-Qaeda as a tactical instrument," he said, and warned of the regional and global repercussions of the US and Turkish aid to the Al-Qaeda and Salafi groups.

"Unfortunately, these group of countries have just focused on the short-term benefits that the Salafis and the Al-Qaeda can provide for them and ignore the perils of this support in the long run," he said.

"At present, the western countries, specially Britain which hosts and controls the Jihadi Salafi groups throughout the world are paving the ground for these extremists to leave their homes - mostly in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as those who live in Europe and the US - for Waziristan," the source added.

Why are Egyptian Liberals Celebrating a Massacre? Max Blumenthal's excellent analysis

I have to say that I fully agree with Max Blumenthal on each point he makes here. To me, this is the most credible analysis I have seen so far.

What do you think?
